About the Ottawa Pops Orchestra: 

The Ottawa Pops Orchestra is a semi-professional community orchestra dedicated to performing accessible and relevant music. We are passionate about redefining the modern orchestral experience through innovative performances. Comprised of individuals who love to dress up and share their passion for music, our mission is to foster the next generation of musicians, redefine the orchestral experience, and create a sense of community in the Ottawa-Gatineau Region. 

Job Description: 

We are seeking passionate and driven individuals to join the Board of Directors of the Ottawa Pops Orchestra. Volunteer Board members will collaborate with the existing administrative team and fellow board members to achieve the following goals: 

  1. Optimizing Processes: Enhance operational efficiency by refining existing processes and implementing new procedures where necessary. 

  2. Organizational Growth: Foster the expansion and development of Ottawa Pops Orchestra to increase its impact and reach within the community. 

  3. Educational Outreach: Engage with the National Capital Region through educational initiatives to promote music appreciation and awareness. 

  4. Financial Oversight: Monitor and safeguard the financial health of Ottawa Pops, ensuring resources are managed responsibly in alignment with the organization's mission and artistic vision. 

  5. Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate meaningful relationships with patrons, donors, and the broader community to maintain support and enhance the organization's reputation. 

  6. Advocacy and Representation: Serve as a passionate spokesperson and advocate for Ottawa Pops Orchestra, promoting its mission, values, and achievements within the community. Act as a dedicated cheerleader to inspire enthusiasm and support for the organization's initiatives and events. 

Each board member pledges to fundraise $1000 for the Ottawa Pops Orchestra per term year. Specific board positions (Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary - optionally Treasurer and President) are decided by the elected board following the AGM. 

Qualifications: 

We are searching for passionate and driven individuals with a variety of life experiences and/or professional backgrounds, particularly those with experience in Legal, Financial, Social Enterprise, Marketing, or Education fields. We are committed to representing diverse communities on our Board of Directors, encouraging Indigenous Peoples, new Canadians, IBPOC, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ+ individuals, and members of racialized and marginalized groups to apply. 

Expectations: 

  • Regular attendance at board meetings and active participation in discussions and decision-making processes. 

  • Willingness to contribute time and effort to achieve the organization's goals and objectives, including involvement in subcommittees and special projects. 

  • Adherence to the organization's code of conduct, ethics, and conflict of interest policies. 

  • Responsiveness to communication from fellow board members, staff, and stakeholders. 

  • Advocacy for Ottawa Pops Orchestra within the community and support for fundraising and promotional efforts. 

  • Commitment to ongoing learning and development to enhance effectiveness as a board member. 

  • Achieve the minimum 1000.00$ personal fundraising goal, per term year. If this requirement is prohibitive for an otherwise qualified and successful candidate, the Board would consider making alternative arrangements to satisfy the requirements of the Bylaws.

If you are interested in contributing to any of the above goals, please consider submitting your candidacy at our AGM on May 31. Prospective board members should attend our AGM at Perez (room 109) at 7pm. Alternatively, a video application can be submitted by May 28 2024. Potential board members should introduce themselves to the membership and explain why they would like to join the Ottawa Pops Orchestra’s board.
